Anglepoise®
The Anglepoise® Lamp, originally designed in 1933, is one of six items selected by the Design Museum in London, that illustrate the impact of contemporary design on our everyday lives.
In 2005 the Roald Dahl Museum commissioned 3 giant copies of the lamp to be made, one of which was purchased by Film Director Tim Burton.
To celebrate it’s 75th birthday in 2009 it was featured on a British stamp, and Paul Smith designed his own individual take on the lamp in 2014.
Now artist and sculpter Rob Upritchard has put a uniquely Christchurch spin on this design classic using parts from the lamps that originally lit the Cathedral.
His design uses only high grade stainless steel, cast and spun aluminium, spring steel, concrete and marine ply, automotive paint, custom made and balanced springs, all developed by small Christchurch based workshops.
Rob’s keen interest in recycling means that the lamp is made from 95% recyclable parts.
