To settle down , to become quiet or calm

To establish or become established in a place.

To make or become comfortable for resting.

“The new bird bouquet series represents settling in my new home with its abundant garden of flowers and the intricate design of the 17th century European tiles used to decorate the fireplace when floral arrangements weren’t available.”

Kathryn Furniss – ‘Settle’ 21 February  – 18 March  2015

Kathryn resides in Nelson with her husband where they raised their two sons.

Bought up by an artistic father she was encouraged to explore her natural creative abilities.

As a self-taught artist she draws her inspiration from pacific landscape, objects and native birds.

"I use birds to tell stories or portray feelings and relationships.

The shadow birds connecting the past with the present, being a spirit, past loved one or guardian of the other.

Upright paddles stand for protection and safety, boats and oars representing arrival from and traveling to far off places we have been, whether in reality or in our dreams".

In the past 13 years Kathryn has had numerous successful exhibitions throughout NZ and internationally.
