Lyttleton, port town, union town....the bosses wore the suits, felted hats, ties, strode the talk, the workers open shirted, knitted vest, leather builders aprons.
Gill paints a period of time so distinctly marked by the clothing, the landmarks, the demarcation, the expressionless people.
