Artist Profile

Anna Dalzell Mother Land

Anna Dalzell lives and works with her family in North Canterbury where she was born. She gained a Bachelor of Design in 1999 and a Graduate Diploma in Printmaking from CPIT in 2000.  Dalzell’s art endeavours to capture our connection with the land. Often working with the figure she investigates our place. Historical events frequently become important in the shaping of her imagery.

Dalzell’s art practice focuses mainly with intaglio printmaking and drawing. She tutors Printmaking part time at Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology.

Reflections on art, motherhood and the environment: "Recent events have heightened my need to appreciate what is near and dear to me. This series aims to capture the precious and ever changing aspects of life as a mother.  Renaissance Madonna and child drawings have inspired me.  I am interested in studies expressing intimate and approachable depictions of mother and child. I relate this to the Hurunui and the Waitohi, my local rivers, from lake to sea over the braided plains. This is my landscape as a mother. My work is a tribute to what I have in a rapid, ever changing world."
